World Flipper

Greetings mechanics and tinkerers!

SWINDLER ALERT!: There has been a large number of mobile video ads on android devices. Each one of these videos shows what appear to be Asian-origin people with very bad voice-to-text voice-overs. These videos not only tell you the exact way they scam you, but they also claim they don't do it. Any apps that claim you can make hundreds of dollars a day are fake.

I have checked out some of these games. Each one of them follows the same pattern and all offer you nothing. A couple makes you think they are legit but they want you to pay them 5 dollars to collect 1000. These apps have you watch an infinite amount of ads and give you some wait time excuse or say that all claims are filled. Then you have to watch 20 videos to get your winnings. These apps are just gaining as much from ad views as possible before disappearing soon. I can not believe how much they spend on ads just to scam people into money. I will show a couple of screenshots of the games to avoid. As there are literally a hundred new games that dropped, and are in 'early access', that I can not post every possible one.

On to the main blog.

Today bring your steam-powered submarine with: World Flipper

Today you enter the world of Pinbal via World Flipper. This game is an absolutely unique game where you beat up monsters by using giant flippers. Now the game does not explain away how these flippers work or how they get to be in a level. It appears to be a very meta thing. This game has been displayed on many ads and I finally tried it out because it takes several gigs of data. Let me repeat, it takes a lot of space!

This game has a lot to it and I cover as much as I can. This game really surprised me it has microtransactions but there are no ads in sight. On the main screen here, you go to the story missions or enter events when you get to the right level. The premium currency is rainbow pearls and this is used on literally everything in the game. You can gain more pearls from completing numerous missions and clearing story levels. Lastly, you can go to the boss-battles but I have not found out how to join in on random battles without a passcode.

The next tab is where all of your units are stored. You can select 3 main units that will battle in the pinball tables for you. You can equip them with items and you can choose 3 subunits to give your main units buffs in battle. Each unites has an element that ties into an effectiveness triangle shown in the next screenshot. As you battle you also collect mana and must improve unites on a board similar to some Final Fantasy games. Also, as you clear out levels, you get bonus experience you can then distribute to other units to level them.

When you click onto one of your 20 or so unit spaces, you can edit the team you are using. Each unit has a rarity like every gotcha game ever, and only 5-star units are usable. And like gotcha games, you need multiple copies of the same unit to raise their max level.

The next tab is the shop menu. Here you can buy mana or pearls and use those pearls to buy unit upgrades. You can also trade in your event items here as well.

When you go onto a unit's mana board you get this space filled with different things you have to unlock. Not only does it take a certain number of points from leveling up, but you also have to collect specific materials to open up mana nodes. Some nodes seem to have team buff effects.

Here is a quick sample of what you have seen for skills on the mana board. Some skills also require mana to unlock.

On the mana board, some nodes unlock background story for units, but there these levels are locked and you have to complete main story levels before they can be viewed.

This is a screenshot of the cost of the pearls which are called Lodestar Beads. I still find that games like this do not give a great value for the price you pay.

Here is the cost for buying mana with lodestars, This is oddly an affordable thing to buy in the game.

Here is a sample of the daily missions. The regular tab near the top is where you find the long-term goals to get rewards.

Now I have made it to the main story screen. You get a gorgeous rendered tab for the level you currently have open. You can see your percent cleared and not much else.

When you click into a world, you can see the stages on a map screen. I like how the developers only show you the current unlocked stages and the others are hidden away.

When you click on a stage, you have several sub-stages. Some of them are story and the others are enemy levels. The tends to be 1 story and 2 enemy stages in a repeating pattern. The game follows a lot of formulaic tends in the game design and it keeps everything tidy and professional-looking.

Now onto a pinball battle stage. At the bottom, you have spikes that you 'bounce' off of and they do damage to your units but do not outright kill them like a real pinball game. You can also tap the screen to do a dash attack with your units. Lastly, you can swipe left, right, or up when the blue triangular shapes are filled right near the paddles to launch a unit's special attack. The way you swipe is tied into the position of the unit in the team select screen.

Here is the result screen. Your main level gets experience, which when that grows you gain more and more energy you can hold. As you level the recharge times can also lower slightly the more energy you get. Your units also gain experience, as do the equipped subunits so everyone wins. Any drops are also displayed on a screen after you hit next.

To wrap all of this up, we have a screenshot of the co-op rooms. Here you can create a room or join a room number. There is no way to connect to any random rooms nor is there a way to allow people to randomly find your battle room without posting to social media or some other place. This is the biggest flawed system in the game.

Overall:

 5 of 5 cogs.

This game may fill up your steam tank a lot but it is a beautiful game. The music is great and overall it's a fun game despite suffering from loot crate-itus and broken coop. This is the perfect game for anyone that has played Pokemon Pinball or Sonic Spinball. Again, sorry for such a long blog this week.

Story:
 5 of 5 cogs.

This game has more story than the first two games I listed in the previous paragraph. There is story for the main character, and then a story for every unit in the game, and some story for events. There is just so much story in this game and its core is pinball mechanics.

Amount of ads:

 None!

None at all. Nothing more to say.

Accurate Advertising?:
💯%

World Flipper is such a professional game where they don't try to trick you to give them money. No click-bait or silly schemes to get you in. This is a pretty straightforward game.

Graphics:
 5 of 5 cogs.

The graphics have an anime feel to them and other elements are detailed pixel art. The thing is, I think it's all the voice clips that cause this game to be so big.

Gameplay:
 5 of 5 cogs.

The gameplay is simple and blends Pinball with an RPG. This is a unique combination that I have not seen in any other game.

Free play:
💯%

This game is fair from what I've seen. The gotcha pulls give you a decent chance at 5 stars if you do a 10 pull.

Fun factor:
💞 Lots of playtime.
