Greetings mechanics and tinkerers!

Time to run away from the nitro crates with: Crash Bandicoot: On the Run

Today's game is from not only a well known franchise, but also a well known mobile game company. I have been on the pre-register list for this game for a long time waiting for it. Be warned, this game takes up a lot of space on a mobile device.

This game captures the base that is Crash Bandicoot. For anyone that played the original games or the remakes, this game captures everything visually that made those games what they are to this day.

You will visit worlds and locations from all over the Crash universe. This game will hit every nostalgia you may have for the original games. This game is a lot slower compared to Temple Run and has shorter levels. The levels are not random like they are for Temple Run, It uses the same controls as well. Swipe left or right to move in those directions. Flick up to jump, and flick down to slide.

When you complete a level, you get a recap of the items you get and the next item you are close to unlocking. You earn trophies as well based on some rather hidden math based on distance and other things. You also gain Whompa fruit that can be used to buy more trophies later on to help you clan.

This is the main island you reside on. Coco builds and fixes machines that are used to make objects you need to defeat the villains Cortex sends after you.

Each villain has a set of gang members that you must defeat before you can take on the villain. Each win nets you a crystal core which is the main system to unlock everything in this game. You can run as much as you want but it takes materials that take a bit of time to make. It creates a situation where you have to wait for these objects to be made and it could be anywhere from 1 minute to 15 minutes. Some items may take even longer to make.

It takes a lot of random items to create these items that you throw at enemies at the end of the level. Don't worry, even if you miss the mark you still complete the level. These objects take a mix of Whompa fruit and other objects you get from the mini-runs on wumpa island.

Wumpa island is where you go to get materials for the items you make in the various machines on your home island. These have set spawn locations and you have to make a couple passes due to split paths to collect everything. These areas take an hour to reset, but while that happens you can always replay the levels still to gain Whompa fruit. As you progress on more places open up and eventually you get very hard challenges that allow you to collect gems and Ahnks just like previous Crash games. Be warned these challenge levels are extremely difficult and should not be attempted until you have a basic understanding of the controls.

Lastly there is a shop. You can claim some free materials once a day and watch a video for extra rewards. There is a LOT of cosmetic outfits you can by for both Crash and Coco. Some of them require physical cash to buy and tend to be on a very limited time sale. Others can be gained via a premium currency you gain from those videos and some of the few quests you get.

Overall:

 5 of 5 cogs.

The game is one that you can pick up and start playing if you have a basic understanding of Temple Run controls. You can do a fair bit for a time until it takes more and more materials to make seriums or weapons to defeat the other villains. This does slow down gameplay and sometimes limits you to playing once an hour.

Story:

 4 of 5 cogs.

There is a little bit of story in between. Each villain has a specific weakness to items you craft. This game sometimes have events as well that give you a look into the lives of Crash and Coco.

Amount of ads:

 none

There are no extra ads except for optional ones you can watch very rarely.

Accurate Advertising?:
💯%

The game is straight forward and doesn't use any trickery like many mobile ads you see online. Google Play screenshots also match the kind of gameplay to expect.

Graphics:
 5 of 5 cogs.

HD and 3d graphics. This game is very hevy on the data size to be sure to download using wifi. The graphics take on the newer style of art like that featured in the recent remakes of Crash games.

Gameplay:
 5 of 5 cogs.

Fast and easy to learn. The game can become repetitive rather quickly because you are doing the same tasks over and over. The difference is there is a lot of variety of levels and villains you have to face so there is a lot of fresh content as you play.

Free play:
💯%

This game is can be played very easily without buying anything. There is a lot of optional cosmetic content but those costumes do add some buffs to different situations and it is not clearly marked until you start a level. So if you want a boost you have to pay for a costume to aid you.

Fun factor:
Crashtastic!
